Life expectancy has increased globally, resulting in a growing number and proportion of older persons in the population. This growth is also reflected in the context of deprivation of liberty. However, the specific risks and needs of older persons deprived of liberty have been overlooked.

This document/submission outlines particular risks of torture and ill-treatment faced by older persons deprived of liberty within and outside the criminal justice system and provides recommendations for change.
