APT, together with 40 other entities, came to the public to express its deep concern for the total veto by the Governor of the State of São Paulo of the Bill approved last December that created the Committee and the Mechanism for the Prevention and Confrontation of Torture in the State of São Paulo. The veto on the creation of such bodies represents a serious setback to the protection of the human rights of people in extremely vulnerable situations, precisely in the state that has the largest number of people deprived of freedom in Brazil.
