Chad signed the OPCAT during the 2012 UN Treaty Event in New York. It represented the first step towards the ratification of the instrument and implementation of its commitments taken during its review by the Universal Periodic Review (2009). Ratification of the OPCAT was also recommended by the Committee against Torture in 2009.
