Serbia became a State Party to the OPCAT in 2006. Five years later, it designated the Ombudsperson's Office (Protector of Citizens) as NPM by a legislation amending the Law on the OPCAT ratification in July 2011.
The Protector of Citizens operates as NPM in formal cooperation with the ombudsperson's offices and with human rights associations. A specific NPM Department is performing the NPM functions.
The SPT member Aneta Stanchevska is the SPT Focal Point for Serbia.
The Serbian NPM includes, besides the Ombuds office, the Provincial Ombudsperson's Office and specialized NGOs selected on the basis of a public call.
The annual reprots are available on its website.
Other reports, such as visit and thematic reports, may be available on the NPM’s website.
