Juvénal Babona

AFRICA REPRESENTATIVE

Juvenal Babona serves as the APT Africa Representative, based in Dakar, Senegal. He develops torture prevention strategies aligned with the APT’s Strategic Plan, advocates for OPCAT ratification, and supports the designation and establishment of National Preventive Mechanisms in Africa. He promotes the implementation of the Méndez Principles and strengthens APT’s ties with the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights. Before joining the APT in May 2022, Juvenal worked with the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) in Geneva, the Angie Brooks International Centre (ABIC) in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana, the Association for Research and Assistance Mission for Africa (ARAMA) in Rwanda, and UNDP in Rwanda. He holds a Master’s in International Affairs from the Geneva Graduate Institute and speaks French, English, Lingala and Kinyarwanda.
