Our governance bodies

Fabio de Almeida Cascardo is Project Officer at APT, based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fabio supports the APT in Brazil with the implementation of the OPCAT, the monitoring of detention control hearings, and the judicial monitoring of prison facilities. He has been developing resources to improve state oversight and individual safeguards for people deprived of liberty, including legal research, mapping of practices, submissions to national and international bodies, and forums and training resources. Fabio joined the APT in 2021, after professional experience with a local preventive mechanism, local and international bar associations, technical protocols on torture documentation and transitional justice policies. Fabio holds a Law degree from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro and a Master's in Critical Theory of Human Rights (UFRJ). He speaks Portuguese and English.
