Ben Buckland

SENIOR ADVISER, OVERSIGHT

Ben Buckland serves as Senior Advisor, Oversight at the APT. He is APT's focal point for work with oversight institutions, including National Human Rights Institutions, National Preventive Mechanisms and other actors in the OPCAT system, including the UN Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture. His work supports NPMs at all stages of their establishment and development, as well as states still considering OPCAT ratification. Prior to joining APT, Ben worked for DCAF, Oxfam, Human Rights Watch, Refugee Survey Quarterly and the University of Melbourne. He holds a BA with first-class honours from the University of Melbourne and an MA from the Graduate Institute in Geneva. Ben speaks English, French and (some) Spanish. Ben is also a freelance photographer whose work has won international awards and been featured in publications including the New York Times.
