In 2018, Morocco took a historic step towards eliminating the risk of torture when it appointed the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) as its national preventive mechanism. The APT is cooperating with the CNDH for years to prepare for the ratification of the Optional Protocol and its implementation. With the CNDH, we have also undertaken awareness raising efforts with the NHRC to ensure that national institutions, including the police and prison authorities, are aware of the body’s mandate.
