Since Mauritania formed its National Preventive Mechanism in 2011, we have worked with it as a strategic partner. We focus on strengthening the torture prevention body’s capacity, including its ability to monitor places of detention. In 2019, the Mauritanian torture prevention body became the region’s first to produce an annual report.
