Efforts to implement an effective and independent National Preventive Mechanism in the Philippines have been ongoing since April 2012, when the country ratified the OPCAT. We have engaged with various government bodies and civil society.
In parallel, we are supporting the development of regional guidelines on the prevention of torture in South East Asia with the South East Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum, of which the Philippines Commission on Human Rights is a part.
