To stimulate discussions on the implementation of the OPCAT in Uruguay.
Activities:
On 30 September, the APT participated in an international seminar on the implementation of the OPCAT in Uruguay, organized by SERPAJ and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in collaboration with the APT. Its aim was to stir discussions on the implementation of the OPCAT at the national level in light of the State Party's delay in establishing a national preventive mechanism as provided for in the OPCAT.
Outcome:
The seminar raised awareness amongst relevent national actors of the need for Uruguay to comply with its international obligation to establish an effective national preventive mechanism as soon as possible.
