The new Tunisia affirmed its commitment to the fight against torture by ratifying the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture in June 2011. While the draft bill to create a National Preventive Mechanism is still under consideration by the parliament, the Tunisian civil society has welcomed the participatory approach taken during the drafting process.
