Tuesday, February 4, 2014

Brazil has taken an important step in the process of establishing the National System for Prevention of Torture.

A call for civil society organisations to become part of the new national torture prevention committee was published in late January and the final selection will start in March. The committee will be composed of 23 members, representing federal authorities, civil society and professional associations.

At the same time, Rondônia became the sixth Brazilian State to designate a local torture prevention mechanism.
