Brazilian reflection on the torture prevention system

Brazil’s process to set up its National System for the Prevention of Torture is ongoing and an increasing number of Brazilian states have already established local torture prevention mechanism in law. In practice however, progress is slow.

The APT and the Federal Office for the Rights of Citizens therefore organised a national seminar, on 26-27 February, for a joint reflection on the following question: What is needed to have independent and autonomous torture prevention bodies in Brazil?
