Argentina: The Role of Health Professionals in Places of Detention

A seminar on the role of health professionals in places of detention took place in Buenos Aires and La Plata, Argentina from 3-5 December 2009. The event was organized jointly by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Ministry of Justice of the Province of Buenos Aires and the National University of La Plata. The APT, the Ministry of Justice, Security & Human Rights of the Province of Buenos Aires and the Forum for Democratic Justice (FOJUDE) co-sponsored.

The APT Guide 'Visiting places of detention - What role for physicians and other health professionals?' was distributed to the more than one hundred health professionals from throughout Argentina expected at the event. High-level authorities, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Jorge Taiana, as well as renowned international experts such as member of the UN Subcommittee on Torture Prevention (SPT), Mario Coriolano, as well as Dr. Hernan Reyes and Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz of the ICRC, participated.
