The APT has historically taken a keen interest in the human rights activities of Europe’s three largest intergovernmental organizations: the Council of Europe, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union (EU). In addition to monitoring the important work of these bodies, the APT has regularly attended their various public sessions in the framework of its torture prevention advocacy activities and provided their constituent bodies with expert opinions on a range of torture related matters. Most recently, the APT has striven to make its presence felt in these forums with a view to promoting the OPCAT and other related matters in the countries of Eastern and Central Europe and the CIS.
