10th anniversary of the law establishing the CGLPL, Paris, France

November 17 - 18, 2017

The APT will participate in the symposium organised by the Controller General of Places of Deprivation of Liberty (CGLPL) on 17-18 November 2017, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the law of 30 October 2007 which established it.

This event will be an opportunity to review the rules governing the creation and operation of the French NPM, as well as to observe the importance it has acquired as an external oversight mechanism of places of deprivation of liberty. Through the cross-testimonials of CGLPL observers, its interlocutors and former CGLPL members, the event will also be a good time to take stock of the CGLPL’s operations and to show home much remains to be done on the protection of fundamental rights.

Among others, Mark Thomson, Secretary General of the APT, will take part in the first discussion on "The urgency of an external eye on confinement."
