Bulgaria - OPCAT Situation

Updated 07.05.2013

Bulgaria ratified the OPCAT in 2011 and has not designated its National Preventive Mechanism yet.

The Ombudsman, in cooperation with the Civil Society, seems to represent the most appropriate institution to perform the duties of the NPM, as communicated to the Committee against Torture. Amendments to its existing legislation are currently considered.

The SPT member Malcolm Evans is the SPT Focal Point for Bulgaria.
