Bulgaria - OPCAT Situation

Bulgaria ratified the OPCAT in 2011. The following year Bulgaria designated its Ombudsman as the country's National Preventive Mechanism through amendments to its existing legislation.

A new Directorate of National Preventive Mechanism and Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms has been established in the Office of the Ombudsman on 1 June 2012.

The SPT member Abdellah Ounnir is the SPT Focal Point for Bulgaria.
