Poland - OPCAT Situation
Poland ratified the OPCAT in 2005 and designated the Commissioner for Human Rights in 2008 as NPM. Amendments were brought to the Act on the Commissioner for Human Rights to make it compliant with the OPCAT. A specific NPM unit was established within the institution.
Similarly to other NPMs, it faces challenges related to lack of human and financial resources, although the number of NPM staff has increased over the years.
The SPT member Victor Zaharia is the SPT Focal Point for Poland.
