Peru - OPCAT Situation

Peru ratified the OPCAT in 2006. Following consultations about the possible structure of the NPM, a law designating the Ombudsperson’s Office (Defensoría del Pueblo) as the NPM was enacted by the Congress and published in the Official Gazette on 22 December 2015.

The Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture visited Peru from 10 to 20 September 2013. The report has been made public.

The SPT member Nora Sveaass is the SPT Focal Point for Peru.
