Liberia - OPCAT Situation

Liberia ratified the OPCAT, together with the UNCAT, in September 2004. Even though a draft anti torture bill foreseeing the establishment of an NPM was submitted to the National Legislature of Liberia in 2010, the NPM has not been established yet.
According to the draft anti-torture law, the NPM would be established as a sub-unit of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR).
The Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture visited Liberia in 2010 and the report has not been made public yet.
