Italy - OPCAT Situation

Italy signed the OPCAT in 2003 and the law on ratification was approved by the Senate late October 2012. The instrument of ratification was deposited to the United Nations on the 3rd of April 2013.

Two NPM options are currently being envisaged: creating a new specialised institution or establishing a new National Human Rights Institution which would also perform the NPM functions.
