Hungary - OPCAT Situation

Updated 08.05.2013

Hungary ratified the OPCAT in 2012, with a declaration under the Article 24 (OPCAT), postponing the establishment of its NPM for a few years.

Nevertheless, it decided to designate its Ombudsperson's Office as NPM, through amendments to the Ombudsperson's Act. It is foreseen that the NPM will start its operations and be effective in 2015.

The SPT member Malcolm Evans is the SPT Focal Point for Hungary.
