Our staff members have regional and thematic expertise in all issues related to the prohibition and prevention of torture and other forms of ill-treatment. Mass media has a crucial role to play in raising public awareness and contributing to a broad dialogue on existing problems and risks for human rights abuses in places of detention. We therefore encourage the media to critically cover the work of governments and legislators and to regularly monitor compliance with national and international commitments.
