The APT is recognised by the Swiss authorities as a non-profit association. Our international Board is elected by members of the association at the annual General Assembly.
The Board meets twice a year to define the strategic orientation of the organisation, review progress and approve the budget for the coming year. Board members also provide guidance and contribute their expertise by participating in activities organised by the Secretariat.
The Bureau (President, Treasurer, Secretary General and two other Board members) meets regularly to supervise the work of the Secretariat.
The APT has consultative status with:

- The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
- l'Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie
