The Detention Monitoring Programme

The APT has been founded on the idea that regular and unannounced visits to places of detention is one of the best way to prevent torture and ill-treatment. The visits programme is thus in charge of promoting preventive visits through providing training and expertise on visiting methodology, facilitating experience-sharing and developing practical tools. This support programme is directed at all visiting bodies, especially at the national level, such as National Human Rights Institutions, ombudsperson offices, National Preventive Mechanisms under the OPCAT and NGOs.
